This series of posts will help familiarize you with your chimney, starting at the most visible part, the firebox, up to your roof and even the parts below you may not have noticed before.

Parts Of A Chimney

While the chimney may appear like a simple device, there are many parts to a modern chimney, as you can see in the diagram here.

A chimney’s sole purpose is to provide a way to safely heat the inside of your home without letting the gasses and smoke from the fire escape into your home. Every part of the chimney plays a role in this.

Because your chimney plays such an important role in the safety of your home heating, we recommend familiarizing yourself with it and having an annual chimney inspection and cleaning done.

A modern chimney is a complex work of masonry art.
